Here in this guide, we answer all these questions one by one. Let’s get started.
Photo cakes one of the biggest cake trends in 2019. It’s in high demand for all celebrations – Birthday parties, Anniversaries, congratulatory dinners, and more. In a photo cake, the photo of the special guest of honour is printed on it. It’s a unique way of expressing love, and the most interesting part is that you can eat the cake. It’s completely edible and enjoyable.
As they say, “a picture is worth a thousand words,” photos on cake express your love and happiness more than wordings.
We are all quite familiar with photo cakes, but have we ever wondered how these are made? It’s simpler than you thought. All you need is a digital photo, edible paper, and edible ink. The process is quite simple and straightforward.
How are photos printed on cakes?
First, you need a digital photo to start with. You need to scan the picture into your system. The next step is to gather the necessary equipment – edible paper, edible ink, and a regular printer.
Yes, you read that right. You do not need a special printer. You can use your regular home printer; an inkjet printer works the best.
Get edible paper and ink to print. The paper is also known as icing paper or frosting paper. It’s usually a paper made from rice, but now the paper is made from other materials like potato starch, cornstarch, and sugar mixture. The edible paper is designed in such a way that it gets dissolved when dipped in water, making it an easily digestible material.
The edible ink is made from the same materials that are used to manufacture icing colours.
Wipe the printer well to remove dust and traces of synthetic ink. Next, insert the edible paper just like you would do a regular sheet of paper. Insert the edible ink cartridge in place of a synthetic cartridge. Scan and print the photo you want.
Once the photo is printed, it’s placed on top of the cake as decoration. That’s it. The photo cake is ready.
Another trending cake design is photo pull-apart cakes. Here a selected roll of photos is hidden inside the cake. The birthday person lifts a tab placed in the cake and is surprised by the memories hidden inside. You can use regular photos printed on regular photo sheets or use edible paper for it.
