What’s a piñata cake, you ask?
Well, the piñata cake is quite simple but so brilliant. The outside of the cake is made with a chocolate shell shaped in the form of a heart, half dome or a sphere. Don’t be fooled by the simple looks of the outside of the cake.
It’s the inside that hides the surprise. You can fill the inside of the cake with chocolates, colourful candies, cookies, mini cupcakes, or even a regular cake. The birthday boy/girl smashes the chocolate dome with a special hammer that comes along with the cake to find the surprises hidden inside.
Also known as “heart smash cake” or “smashable cake”, piñata cakes make for an excellent gift for all ages. Whether you’re celebrating a little one’s birthday, a romantic wedding anniversary, marriage reception, bridal shower, baby shower, wedding engagement or any other occasions, our piñata cakes in Gurgaon make the best choice.
Why is it called a piñata cake?
The word “piñata” is of Spanish origin and translates to pot. Piñatas are a famous celebration at kids’ birthday parties. Generally, piñatas are made of cardboard and paper, shaped like a colourful donkey or horse. Kids at the birthday parties take turns hitting the paper piñata with a stick, trying to get it open. When the piñata breaks, it releases an explosion of candies and chocolates that the kids get to enjoy.
Just like a regular piñata, a piñata cake has to be smashed to reveal the surprise inside. The best part – the chocolate shell on the outside can be eaten and tastes delicious.
How to make a piñata cake?
Making a piñata birthday cake is super easy and can be attempted even if you are an amateur baker. The best part is that you need just two ingredients to make the outer shell. You can use dark, milk or white compound chocolate as per your taste preferences. Besides the chocolate compound, you will also need a silicone mould. These are readily available online.
Now that you’ve got the ingredients ready let’s get to the baking part-
- Your chocolate compound using a double boiler. Ensure that the chocolate is completely smooth.
- Pour the molten chocolate on the inside of the 3D mould. Coat all corners and let it dry.
- You don’t have to grease the silicone mould as it is easy to peel
- Place the mould in the fridge for 10 to 15 minutes. Let it cool completely.
- Now, peel the chocolate off the mould – be slow and work with a steady hand. Applying too much pressure will cause the chocolate to break.
- Once the chocolate shell is free of the mould, decorate it in any way.
- Fill the inside of the shell using your favourite sweet treats – cookies, cupcakes, candies, chocolates, etc.
